RESEARCH
The process began with in depth research on each poet to better understand their individual styles, themes, and unique perspectives while also uncovering the deeper connections that unite their work. This research helped establish a stronger conceptual foundation and informed the overall direction of the project’s visual and narrative approach.
MANUAL TYPE ALTERATION
Following the sketching phase, paper was physically manipulated, layered, and photographed to further explore the visual impact and interaction of overlapping text. This experimental process allowed for a more tactile investigation of texture, depth, and composition, helping to inform the final visual direction of the project.
DIGITAL IDEATIONS: JJJJJEROME ELLIS
Past imagery and previous visual explorations were revisited to help spark new ideas and inspire the direction of these digital iterations. Referencing earlier concepts provided valuable insight into composition, texture, and visual language, helping to guide the continued refinement of the designs.
IDEATIONS FOR ALL THREE POETS
These pieces represent conceptual developments derived from one of the core ideas explored throughout the three posters above. They expand upon the original visual concept through further experimentation with composition, typography, and form, allowing the idea to evolve into a more refined and dynamic series of outcomes.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The final elements incorporated into these posters were thoughtfully designed and personalized to reflect the distinct identity, voice, and themes associated with each poet. Every visual detail was carefully considered to create a stronger connection between the design and the individuality of the poet being represented within these posters.
COLOR PALETTES
For each poster, I chose to use bright, bold, and contrasting colors to reflect how each poet uses their strong, unapologetic personality to express their poetry. The use of contrasting colors also symbolizes the unconventional and unexpected ways in which they communicate their ideas and challenge norms.
